Become a Mentor

Deadline: February 6, 11:59 PM

MENTORS

L.O.V.E. supports and empowers young women to strive both in school and life through positive role modeling.

Our mentors are the backbone of our organization. We recruit female college students to support, guide, and be role models to the young women we serve. Our mentors understand and relate to our mentees because they have gone through similar experiences. In turn, our mentees can see themselves reflected in their mentors.

What motivated you to become a mentor with L.O.V.E.?

Honestly, I'm very big on mental health, especially in my community and I think exposing our community to mental health and getting rid of the stigmas and barriers are very important, especially since it holds so many of us back because it makes us feel alienated from ourselves compared to other demographics and how they view mental health. So I just want to work with kids. And basically, just uplift themselves, make them know that, mental health isn't a bad thing. Or just have, somebody there that's, older, who's been there, someone to lean on if they ever need to.

What advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders?

I would say never be afraid to ask for help. I know it's really hard. But it's always important to know that you have support around you, and it's not just yourself. Because it can feel like you're really drowning when all you need is a hand to help you out whenever you need it.

What do you love about L.O.V.E.?
I just love how down-to-earth it is. It's not something that's saturated. It's not for, like, the fame. But it's really about connecting with people, and it's really about having that one-to-one time with somebody who may not have that at home. So I just feel like it brings the community closer together in a way that you wouldn't expect it to.

What motivated you to become a mentor with L.O.V.E.?

So, honestly, the cause, just the idea of being able to speak to younger women about maybe some more taboo topics and things that don't get enough attention, like mental health, reproductive health, sexual wellness, all the things that are important to me, and I wish I would have had this kind of resource when I was that age. I'm proud to be able to give it to younger people and kind of spread the love of love everywhere.

What are your goals for the future, both personally and professionally?

I see myself continuing to do a lot of public events like this and a lot of community outreach, spreading information, educating myself. I see myself working in bigger groups of people. And kind of carrying on the things that I learned here and taking them into my future world. Hopefully put my foot in places that I didn't think I could before.

What motivated you to become a mentor with L.O.V.E.?

I wanted to mentor at L.O.V.E. because I had already done mentorships in my high school and in the past. But I think the mission at L.O.V.E. really spoke to me. I wish I had sort of an older-sister mentor in my life when I was in high school. And, you know, I have a lot of education, a lot of experience that I think I can definitely give advice on to younger girls. I just want to be there for somebody.
